About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Work with the Manager of Counseling and school leadership team to support student completion of instructional programs
  • Provide direction to counseling staff
  • Assist students and parents with graduation requirements, course selection and scheduling, post-secondary planning, and crisis intervention
  • Support teachers with professionalism, instructional support, customer service, program changes, and new software applications
  • Maintain communication with parents and address individual student needs
  • Support families requiring additional assistance to prevent withdrawals and encourage participation
  • Participate in student recruitment, in-state trips, presentations, Q&A sessions, and press responses
  • Support Community Coordinators with social activities and relevant field trips
  • Create and maintain a virtual school community
  • Handle student problems escalated by parents and teachers
  • Develop and implement counseling programs for academic, career, graduation, and interpersonal adjustment needs
  • Oversee each student's Personal Learning Plan
  • Maintain knowledge of Alabama high school graduation requirements and communicate requirements to school leadership
  • Supervise course selection, four-year planning, transcript review, credit entry, and records management
  • Generate and authorize official transcripts
  • Counsel families through the withdrawal process
  • Design and implement crisis prevention and management plans and lead the Crisis Management Team
  • Report and refer critical incidents as required by law, regulations, or ethical standards
  • Identify and maintain school and community resource lists
  • Review secondary students' attendance, participation, and performance
  • Support mid-semester student enrollment and course integration
  • Review secondary course content and recommend enhancements to the Curriculum Team
  • Develop special programs, including Advanced Placement, SAT/ACT preparation, and college entrance preparation
  • Facilitate high school testing, including exit exams, PSAT, SAT, ACT, and AP exams
  • Design professional development for teachers and staff
  • Design and coordinate high school graduation ceremonies
  • Coordinate middle and high school teachers and identify students at risk or in crisis
  • Oversee student accounting, attendance tracking, and payment collection assistance
  • Monitor enrollment requirements and communicate them to the Enrollment Department
  • Support state testing logistics and facility contracting
  • Support marketing, student outreach, and public relations
  • Perform other assigned duties

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of 5 years of counseling experience
  • Preferably three years of counseling experience in a virtual setting
  • Alabama Counseling Credential endorsement preferred
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Technologically proficient, especially with Microsoft Office products
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Customer-focused approach
  • High degree of flexibility
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
  • Track record of being a team player
