About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage multiple concurrent transmission electric system capital improvement projects from initiation through completion
- Assemble and coordinate cross-functional project teams for high-priority projects
- Lead project teams to complete projects on time, within scope and within authorized budget
- Develop detailed baseline schedules, identify critical paths and milestones, and update construction dates monthly
- Monitor schedule progress, identify at-risk activities and address issues to prevent delays
- Facilitate status, coordination, scheduling and lessons-learned meetings
- Act as escalation point for project issues, risks and change requests
- Manage and resolve project issues and escalate concerns to leadership
- Monitor and control project costs through cash-flow projections, cost comparisons and variance identification
- Review construction contractor quotes and issue purchase-order requisitions
- Review and approve contractor change orders and invoices
- Communicate project status, issues and risks to leadership and stakeholders
- Collaborate with personnel across the company to achieve project objectives
- Manage transmission overhead and underground line and substation construction projects through the full project lifecycle
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate Level: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education; OR minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in project and/or construction management in electric utility construction or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education
- Intermediate Level: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or relevant, with a minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in project and/or construction management in the electric utility industry or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education; OR minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in project and/or construction management in electric utility construction
- Senior Level: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or relevant, with a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in project and/or construction management in the electric utility industry or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education; OR minimum of twelve (12) years of progressively responsible experience in project and/or construction management in electric utility construction or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education
- Demonstrated ability to lead, direct and motivate a cross-functional team
- PMP certification from PMI preferred
- Familiarity with creating project schedules; Primavera, Microsoft Project or equivalent preferred
- Experience identifying alternative solutions and performing risk assessments
- Experience coordinating and negotiating with outside vendors or third parties
- Familiarity with electric utility construction processes preferred
- Familiarity with electric substation and line equipment preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications
- Effective communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to work on multiple tasks and/or projects simultaneously
- Required to travel on short notice
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a team environment
