About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide technical audio support for Contact’s production of Sleeping Beauty, including rehearsals, installation, operation and maintenance
  • Communicate with the stage manager to support fitted microphones and on-stage sound provisions
  • Provide sound for rehearsals, performances and other events at Contact as directed by the Production Manager
  • Operate sound, process microphones and playback, level sound elements, mix microphones and other sources, and monitor and maintain sound equipment
  • Perform basic programming of the existing QLab project under the direction of the company or sound designer
  • Perform general production maintenance and operational duties
  • Work alone and as part of a team to complete tasks on time
  • Ensure work is safe, high quality and compliant with health and safety and legal obligations
  • Act as Duty Technician, taking responsibility for rear-of-house safety, liaising with the Production Manager and assisting emergency evacuation procedures under the Duty Manager’s supervision
  • Construct, rig and de-rig audio equipment, settings, scenery and furniture when required
  • Operate sound equipment for technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, performances and other projects
  • Assist with basic maintenance throughout the production
  • Attend design, production, departmental, company and other required meetings
  • Maintain loose sound equipment safely and keep work areas tidy
  • Manage personal data in line with GDPR
  • Represent Contact on-site and off-site and maintain relationships with partner organisations
  • Follow Contact’s Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities and Safeguarding policies
  • Undertake other reasonable production-related duties

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Two years’ experience as a Theatre Technician, including voluntary, placement or training course experience, or experience in other operational and logistical roles with a keen interest in technical theatre
  • Experience rigging, setting up and operating a wide range of sound equipment
  • Experience providing sound for live events, including installation, QLab programming and live mixing of playback, vocals and instruments
  • Enthusiasm for and commitment to Equal Opportunities and Diversity
  • Knowledge and experience of Safeguarding
  • Experience maintaining technical equipment
  • Ability to work with a wide range of people with a positive and flexible approach
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Self-motivation, communication, organisation and attention to detail
  • Enjoyment of working with young people in an arts organisation
  • Enthusiasm for working in a creative organisation focused on young people aged 13–30
  • Experience using Office 365 and Microsoft Office applications
  • Desirable: industry-related qualification or similar
  • Desirable: experience with audiovisual systems, signal processing, QLab and other software
  • Desirable: experience mixing headset-style vocal microphones, wireless microphone systems and programming audio dynamics
  • Desirable: experience with Dante networking
  • Desirable: experience using systems for flying, scenery, setting, properties, special effects, stage machinery and equipment
  • Desirable: experience of stage management
  • Desirable: knowledge of Health & Safety responsibilities and their application
