About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide functional support and guidance for PSM elements owned by other departments
  • Develop and deliver PSM-required employee training
  • Establish methods for sharing relevant safety knowledge and industry lessons learned
  • Develop process safety expertise, judgment, and initiative within the workforce
  • Implement, maintain, and continuously improve process safety policies, procedures, and systems
  • Ensure the PSM Program meets Corden's business needs
  • Establish relationships with internal and external process safety resources
  • Provide process safety technical and regulatory expertise to Corden employees
  • Establish, maintain, and enhance management-of-change systems
  • Develop and implement systems for identifying, evaluating, and mitigating or preventing hazards
  • Periodically assess the PSM Program against site and regulatory requirements
  • Address identified program deficiencies
  • Lead risk assessment and incident investigation teams and follow implementation of recommendations
  • Coordinate physical testing of raw materials, intermediates, and final products for hazard data
  • Develop systems for safely handling and using hazardous materials
  • Coach, mentor, and train less experienced engineers and operations personnel on PSM subjects
  • Lead Process Hazard Analysis teams and support chemical manufacturing process engineering
  • Advise management on PSM opportunities and advances
  • Lead concurrent projects and project teams focused on safety, compliance, cost reduction, and process improvement

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering from a 4-year college or university is required
  • Five years’ experience in Chemical Plant Process Engineering/Support Functions, including 3 years of direct experience with Process Safety responsibilities
  • Hands-on experience in a Manufacturing environment including process safety responsibilities
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to frequency distribution, test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret extensive technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables
  • Process Hazard Analysis Leader training and demonstrated ability to effectively lead Process Hazard Analysis Teams
  • Experience with process engineering support for chemical manufacturing processes
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA's 1910.119 standard, regulatory letters of interpretation, recognized codes, and engineering standards
  • Ability to read, understand, explain, propose, defend, and implement regulatory-compliant, cost-effective solutions
  • Demonstrated technical competence and ability to learn new processes and technical subject matter
  • Demonstrated hands-on approach emphasizing cost effectiveness and high-quality standards
  • Strong written and verbal presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage several complicated projects concurrently
  • Demonstrated understanding of PSM requirements
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, negotiation, initiative, and communication skills
