AVP Underwriting – Equine Farm Property

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Implement, oversee, and grow a profitable book of farm property and liability insurance within the Equine segment
- Assist with form filings, new system development, and other processes
- Review new risk submissions, renewals, and endorsement requests within assigned authority and underwriting guidelines
- Manage the team as the business expands and grows
- Evaluate, accept, reject, or modify risks within established underwriting guidelines
- Assist Division leadership with development and implementation of the division business plan and market strategy
- Expand and maintain awareness of the insurance market, specifically in the assigned line of business
- Ensure appropriate response times and exemplary customer service for broker partners
- Communicate with broker partners to develop and maintain relationships
- Encourage targeted business submissions and collaborate with brokers to obtain necessary information
- Maintain accurate and timely account status in all systems throughout the underwriting life cycle
- Pursue professional training for product knowledge and personal growth
- Use independent judgment and initiative to support business goals
- Undertake other duties as reasonably required or assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
- 10+ years of experience in equine farm underwriting required
- 5+ years of management experience preferred
- AFIS desired
- CPCU desired
- In-depth knowledge of rating, forms, and underwriting requirements
- Ability to develop/oversee underwriting team
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to negotiate and be persuasive
- Ability to simplify, analyze, and explain complex issues
- Ability to review processes and determine opportunities for improvement
- Ability to work at both an overview and detailed level
- Ability to manage time and projects effectively
- Ability to travel (5%)
- Ability to collaborate, think analytically, and foster relationships
