About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Review AI-generated Japanese translations against English source content
- Correct errors, omissions, unnatural phrasing, and inconsistent terminology
- Restructure sentences and passages for clarity and suitability for Japanese learners
- Preserve technical meaning, learning objectives, assignment requirements, quiz meaning, answer options, and feedback
- Edit and check lessons and assessments directly in Codio while preserving formatting and structure
- Apply and update Japanese style guides and glossaries in consultation with the team
- Flag unclear or ambiguous English source content and consult subject matter experts on technical meaning and terminology
- Provide concise feedback on recurring translation issues
- Manage assigned work independently, communicate progress and questions, and meet agreed deadlines
Requirements
What you’ll need- Professional experience in English-to-Japanese translation and substantive Japanese editing, including rewriting for clarity, flow, and audience needs
- Excellent written Japanese and strong English reading comprehension
- Ability to recognize differences in English and Japanese writing conventions
- Ability to explain editorial decisions and preserve source meaning while adapting structure and phrasing
- Experience applying style guides and glossaries, researching terminology, and identifying issues requiring clarification
- Ability to critically review AI-generated translations and take responsibility for final Japanese content quality
- Ability to learn Codio and work directly in an online content platform
- Ability to work remotely and independently for approximately 10–15 hours per week, with reliable written communication
- Resume and examples of English-to-Japanese editorial adaptation required for application
- English source and Japanese before-and-after versions should be included where permitted, with confidential information removed or permission to share confirmed
