About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM coding for four or more specialties for one or more clients, facilities, or multiple facilities or clients
  • Perform Professional Fee, Facility, or HCC coding, including inpatient coding or coding across multiple specialties
  • Provide coding services to support clients
  • Calculate ProFee and/or Facility E/M levels using the company algorithm
  • Recognize critical care cases based on patient acuity
  • Code surgical procedures typical of an emergency room setting to capture additional revenue when appropriate
  • Apply ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes to the highest available specificity
  • Apply ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT®, and HCPCS diagnosis and procedure codes accurately
  • Interpret coding guidelines for accurate code assignment
  • Identify the impact of documentation on code assignment and reimbursement
  • Maintain required quality and productivity standards
  • Communicate professionally with clients to foster excellent working relationships
  • Assist Leadership or Lead Coding Specialist with reports as needed
  • Potentially assist with auditing
  • Participate in company-provided training and education
  • Protect confidential information, including Personal Health Information
  • Comply with AHIMA ethical coding standards, the Company’s Code of Ethics and Business Conduct, and the Ethics and Compliance Program

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • AAPC certification (CPC or COC) or AHIMA certification (CCS or CCS-P)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience
  • Advanced working knowledge and experience with EMR and billing systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to open and edit spreadsheets, perform basic formulas, and create a basic pivot table in Excel
  • Ability to manage emails and schedule and attend meetings in Outlook
  • Current CPT and ICD-10-CM coding references
  • Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance
  • Maintain ongoing productivity and accuracy of 95% or higher
  • Maintain ongoing quality score of 95% or higher
  • Effective and professional verbal and written communication
  • Ability to coordinate, analyze, observe, make decisions, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work from home independently
  • Ability to work at a computer terminal for 6–8 hours per day
  • Ability to lift and move material weighing up to 20 lbs. infrequently
  • Compliance with privacy, security, confidentiality, ethical coding, and company policies
