About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM coding across 1–4 specialties
- Code professional fee and facility services
- Provide coding services supporting clients
- Calculate professional fee and/or facility E/M levels using the company algorithm
- Recognize critical care cases based on patient acuity
- Code surgical procedures typical of an ER setting to capture additional revenue when appropriate
- Apply ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes to the highest available specificity
- Accurately assign ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT®, and HCPCS codes
- Interpret coding guidelines for accurate code assignment
- Identify the documentation impact on code assignment and reimbursement
- Follow AHIMA ethical coding standards and the company Code of Ethics and Business Conduct
- Comply with internal policies, privacy, security, and confidentiality requirements
- Participate in company-provided training and education
- Perform other duties assigned by leadership
Requirements
What you’ll need- Must be certified through either AAPC (CPC or COC) or AHIMA (CCS or CCS-P)
- Must maintain at least one credential through AAPC or AHIMA
- At least 2 years of on-the-job experience
- Must be able to work from home and work independently in coding skills
- Experience coding for hospitalists, nephrology, bedside procedures, split shared services, inpatient tests, and FS modifiers
- Experience with EMR systems, specifically 3M Encompass or 3M encoder
- Working knowledge and experience with EMR and billing systems
- Must have a phone, reliable internet connection, and current CPT and ICD-10-CM coding references
- Maintain ongoing productivity and accuracy of 95% or higher
- Maintain a quality score of 95% or higher
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook
- Effective and professional verbal and written communication
- Ability to coordinate, analyze, observe, make decisions, and meet deadlines
- Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance required
- Ability to work at a computer terminal for 6–8 hours per day
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods and occasionally lift and move material weighing up to 20 lbs
