About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM coding across 1–4 specialties
- Perform professional fee or facility coding
- Calculate ProFee and/or Facility E/M levels using the company-created algorithm
- Recognize critical care cases based on patient acuity
- Code surgical procedures typical of an emergency room setting when appropriate
- Apply ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes to the highest available specificity
- Apply ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT®, and HCPCS diagnosis and procedure codes accurately
- Interpret coding guidelines for accurate code assignment
- Assess documentation importance and reimbursement impact
- Follow AHIMA’s Standards of Ethical Coding and the Company’s Code of Ethics and Business Conduct
- Comply with internal policies, privacy and security rules, and confidentiality requirements
- Participate in company-provided training and education
- Maintain at least one AAPC or AHIMA credential
- Perform other duties assigned by leadership
Requirements
What you’ll need- Must be certified through either AAPC (CPC or COC) or AHIMA (CCS or CCS-P)
- Minimum of 6 months of on-the-job experience
- Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance
- Working knowledge and experience with EMR and billing systems
- Must have a phone, reliable internet connection, and current CPT and ICD-10-CM coding references
- Maintain ongoing productivity and accuracy of 95% or higher
- Maintain a quality score of 95% or higher
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally verbally and in writing
- Ability to coordinate, analyze, observe, make decisions, and meet deadlines
- Ability to work from home independently
- Ability to work at a computer terminal for 6–8 hours per day
- Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 20 lbs. infrequently
