About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Report to the Head of Engineering
- Deliver designs for water projects on the Severn Trent Water Framework
- Ensure compliance with Costain Way gates and controls for design commissions
- Control information flow between project parties and supply chain partners
- Prepare design scopes and agree deliverable requirements
- Coordinate reporting against framework requirements and KPIs
- Manage project teams to deliver design deliverables, programmes, and budgets
- Hold and record regular design meetings
- Coordinate and manage design risk, buildability, carbon, and DfMA workshops
- Support package procurement and supply chain engagement
- Work with the commercial team to support design development and timely design information
- Ensure compliance with Severn Trent, industry, and Costain standards and secure required derogations
- Challenge design solutions for safety, efficiency, buildability, DfMA, low-carbon outcomes, and affordability
- Coordinate and record design, technical assurance, and CDM reviews
- Ensure design implementation aligns with the project BIM strategy
- Apply relevant legislation, particularly health and safety requirements
- Promote Costain professionally to internal and external stakeholders
- Maintain working relationships with design, delivery, commercial, employer, and supply chain teams
Requirements
What you’ll need- Civil engineering qualification and practical delivery experience
- SMSTS
- CSCS
- Driving licence
- Experience working within the water sector in Mechanical, Electrical ICA, or Civils disciplines in maintenance, design, or capital delivery roles
- Thorough understanding of design delivery, design procurement, design management, design control, and quality assurance
- BIM knowledge to ISO 19650
- Working knowledge of the NEC4 suite of contracts
- Previous experience managing complex or sensitive programmes
- Practical experience working with NEC4 contracts
- Good organisational skills
- Effective communication and strong stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work and learn quickly in a fast-paced environment
- Positive and proactive attitude
- Experience of water industry working is desirable
- Chartered Engineer of a relevant institution is desirable
