About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist the Quantity Surveyor with preparing and managing subcontracts
- Ensure contract files, communications, payments, early warnings, compensation events and programme submissions are maintained and compliant
- Develop and monitor procurement strategy with the Quantity Surveyor, Procurement team, Construction Manager and Project Manager
- Work with site teams to manage allowances and outputs, communicate change control and escalate issues
- Assist with live forecasting, cost reporting, variance analysis and final outturn calculations
- Monitor actual costs against baselines, value of work done, solution cost progress and affordability challenges
- Ensure efficiencies are reflected in reporting tools within client timelines
- Record deliveries in accordance with Anglian Water and partner requirements
- Assist with project and programme risk mitigation plans
- Support proper administration of the Alliance Contract, including early warnings and contractual notices
- Help project team members understand contractual arrangements
- Identify, implement and monitor efficiency plans
- Maintain records for audits and cost assurance
- Assist with producing financial accounts
- Promote continuous improvement in health and safety and maintain safe working practices
- Complete health and safety inductions and scheduled audits
- Monitor Working Time Directive compliance and mandatory safety equipment usage
- Report near misses and support a zero-accident culture
Requirements
What you’ll need- Good result in a Quantity Surveyor degree or equivalent, with a minimum 2:1 achieved or expected
- RICS/CICES accredited degree, or enrolment on an accredited part-time postgraduate degree with some relevant experience
- Enrolled and working towards Full Membership of either RICS or CICES
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Mobility to work on various projects throughout the UK during the two-year programme
- Ability to travel to project sites, including remote locations
- Extensive IT knowledge, particularly MS Excel
- Excellent communication, organisation and time-management skills
- Ability to prioritise, work accurately and thrive in pressured situations
- Willingness to learn with appropriate instruction
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships and integrate into teams
- Passion for Costain's Carbon Net Zero targets
- May be required to obtain and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance; this requires legal UK residence for a minimum of 5 years and successful completion of vetting
- Passport and/or right-to-work documentation required at interview
