About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Report to the Procurement and Supply Chain Manager
- Lead subcontract procurement activities on projects within the sector
- Deliver pre-contract subcontract procurement and post-contract supply chain management
- Collaborate with stakeholders across multiple functions
- Support completion and ongoing updates of procurement strategy documents
- Report procurement progress throughout projects
- Lead project subcontract procurement in compliance with the How to Buy process
- Deliver predictable outcomes, meet key dates and milestones, and maintain forecast accuracy
- Tender through an e-tendering system using a total-value approach to subcontractor selection
- Help maintain a robust and structured supply chain for projects and frameworks
- Develop relationships with internal stakeholders to improve procurement governance and value for money
- Support and mentor junior Procurement and Supply Chain team members
- Support ESG initiatives, including local SME engagement, Social Impact, and Net Zero
- Promote collaboration with the supply chain to unlock innovation and best practice using ISO 44001 or Project 13 principles
Requirements
What you’ll need- Full member or working towards the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (minimum level 5)
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Experience working in a similar role
- Basic proficiency in procurement software and tools
- Understanding of supply chain management principles
- Procurement skills relevant to the construction industry
- Extensive knowledge of leading subcontract procurement activities
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for supplier relationships and internal collaboration
- Strong organisational skills
- Excellent analytical skills relating to numerical and clarification assessments
- Experience of collaborative working
- Ability to evaluate research and identify relevant information
- Proactive, flexible, and results-oriented
- Ability to work in team environments and in isolation
- Excellent Microsoft Office proficiency, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams
- Desirable: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field
- Desirable: Other accredited certifications in procurement or supply chain management
- Desirable: Knowledge of Water Industry Procurement and Supply Chain operations
- Desirable: Experience working within a matrix organisation
- Desirable: Working knowledge of procurement software such as SourceDogg, eJAGGAER, Arriba Sourcing, or similar
- Desirable: Familiarity with NEC forms of contract
- Desirable: Ability to lead and mentor junior procurement staff
- Desirable: Previous knowledge of framework projects and associated procurement practices
