About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Ensure construction is adequately considered in detailed design
Provide construction leadership and manage all aspects of construction, including investigations, surveys and mobilisation
Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with The Costain Way
Put safety above all else and lead by example
Promote a Safe, Efficient, Right First-Time approach to quality and avoid rework
Manage a team of engineering staff and collaborate with the project leadership team and other disciplines
Support the Project Director in all construction matters, including handover
Provide planning and procurement support
Implement product control and manage related subcontract activities
In Stage 1, lead site investigation and the Early Contractor Involvement team to ensure the design is safe and efficient to construct
In Stage 2, ensure permanent works and corresponding documentation meet standards required to hand over assets to Norfolk County Council and National Highways

Requirements

What you’ll need

Degree or HND in Civil Engineering or allied subject, or equivalent vocational training
Relevant CSCS Card
SMSTS or equivalent H&S qualification
Extensive experience in construction delivery with noteworthy time spent in a management position (e.g. Agent/Senior Agent)
Knowledge and experience of relevant design solutions and standards, including Specification for Highways Works
Knowledge of common highways construction techniques and related procedures
Experience of working within a Principal Designer and Principal Contractor environment
Knowledge and experience of Temporary Works procedures
Ability to deliver high-quality construction and associated documentation to enable handover
Chartered Engineer and membership of a professional engineering institution (desirable)
Temporary works coordinator and/or lifting AP (desirable)
Understanding of National Highways’ handover processes (desirable)
Local authority and Strategic Road Network environment design/construction experience (desirable)
Experience of gaining and discharging consents from Statutory Environmental Bodies (desirable)
Experience of gaining design approvals from relevant authorities (desirable)
