About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Identify design scope and deliverables
  • Support development and agreement of design scopes, programmes and budgets
  • Manage allocated design partners and project teams against agreed deliverables, programmes and budgets
  • Manage the design contract and coordinate reporting aligned with Framework requirements
  • Ensure design compliance with Severn Trent Water, industry and Costain standards
  • Challenge design solutions for safety, efficiency, buildability, DfMA and low-carbon outcomes
  • Hold and record regular design meetings to manage progress and coordination
  • Coordinate and manage design risk, buildability, carbon and DfMA workshops
  • Coordinate and manage design reviews, technical assurance reviews and CDM reviews
  • Ensure design is implemented and managed in line with the project BIM strategy
  • Remain conversant with current legislation, particularly relevant health and safety requirements
  • Promote Costain professionally to external and internal stakeholders
  • Maintain professional relationships with design, delivery, commercial and employer teams
  • Support procurement decision-making for each work package with Framework team members and supply-chain partners
  • Adhere to Costain governance for design management and project delivery
  • Report to the Head of Engineering

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Civil, Mechanical, or EICA engineering qualification
  • Practical delivery experience
  • SMSTS
  • CSCS
  • Driving licence
  • Practical experience working with NEC4 contracts
  • APM or equivalent
  • Good organisational skills
  • Effective communication and strong stakeholder management skills
  • Previous experience of management on complex/sensitive programmes
  • Experience of water industry working (preferred)
  • Chartered Engineer or equivalent of a relevant institution
  • Knowledge of design delivery, design procurement, design management, design control, quality assurance, BIM to ISO 19650, and NEC4 contracts
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple teams to deliver production-thinking, carbon-efficient design solutions
  • Must be able to work in the United Kingdom at the stated locations
