About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support and assist the Chief Medical Officer with CBP medical support efforts
  • Provide medical direction and guidance in direct support of CBP components
  • Provide medical direction for USBP medical operations, including emergency medical services, tactical medicine, contingency response, public health/infectious disease efforts, and medical support for people in custody
  • Support medical direction and oversight of CBP medical support operations, including medical quality management, emergency management and contingency response, and electronic medical record or related health information systems
  • Support the CBP Border Health System and Medical Quality Management efforts through care review and analysis, clinical advice for performance improvement projects, sentinel event reviews, root cause analyses, and deaths-in-custody reviews
  • Support the CBP Emergency Medical Services Program through education, online medical consultation, and quality oversight
  • Support CBP medical data and information analysis efforts
  • Facilitate procurement methods for prescription medical equipment and supplies
  • Provide medical oversight and direction to CBP component EMS programs, special EMS projects, and EMS clinicians
  • Implement EMS requirements consistent with DHS policies and ensure standardization, accountability, and quality across CBP EMS programs
  • Ensure compliance with documentation and reporting requirements through the DHS ePCR system
  • Liaise with DHS OHS on protocols, EMS education, training, and certification
  • Support EMS working groups for policy development and operational capability review
  • Provide medical guidance for contingency operations and unique missions
  • Conduct medical quality-assurance oversight and reviews of component EMS programs
  • Participate in post-incident reviews and ensure medical direction is available to qualified personnel
  • Report directly to the Chief Medical Officer

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy Degree from an accredited institution
  • Current unrestricted state license to practice medicine
  • Board-certification or board eligibility in a relevant medical specialty field
  • Permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States
  • Significant experience in medical program leadership, including electronic medical record management, medical data and information management, and medical quality management
  • Relevant prior operational medicine experience in a military, law enforcement, humanitarian, or healthcare system setting highly desired
  • Experience overseeing care delivery from a headquarters perspective and providing subject matter expertise to executive or command-level leadership desired
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative and follow-through on sensitive, complex issues
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of medically trained and non-medically trained subject matter experts
  • Experience working within a chain of command
  • Ability to manage an extremely fast-paced work environment with significant responsibility and short deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to build and maintain relationships with partners across the federal government
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be able to pass a DHS Full Scope Background Investigation
