About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Underwrite new and renewal business, evaluating risk, determining terms and conditions, and making decisions within delegated authority
- Manage underwriting workflow through submissions, binding, policy servicing, and documentation according to company and regulatory standards
- Monitor production metrics, including retention, spread of risk, and underwriting performance, to support portfolio quality and predictability
- Review and resolve underwriting issues, including inspection findings, servicing requests, and coverage adjustments
- Collaborate with producers, agents, and internal teams to ensure timely communication and effective execution of underwriting decisions
- Provide leadership and coordination across underwriting teams, ensuring alignment, communication, and adherence to policies and procedures
- Mentor and support less experienced underwriters through technical guidance and knowledge sharing
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree or relevant insurance designation preferred
- Experience within underwriting, including multi-line or specialty insurance products
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex accounts and contribute to underwriting performance outcomes
- Experience providing guidance or mentorship within a team environment preferred
- Appropriate state-specific insurance license required
- Professional designations such as CPCU, CIC, or equivalent may be preferred
- Strong underwriting analysis and risk assessment capabilities
- Knowledge of underwriting guidelines, rating methodologies, and regulatory requirements
- Ability to interpret policies, contracts, and coverage structures
- Strong communication and relationship management skills with producers and internal teams
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills in complex underwriting scenarios
- Leadership capability to guide and support team members and promote consistent execution
- English language fluency required
