About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Research and analyze federal and state laws and regulations affecting CCM’s business activities
- Provide legal advice and recommendations to leadership and business stakeholders
- Prepare legal memoranda and written analyses on complex regulatory and compliance matters
- Interpret new and amended regulatory requirements and determine their applicability to CCM
- Partner with the regulatory change implementation function on impact assessments and communication of regulatory changes
- Support implementation of regulatory changes, including policy and procedure updates
- Review and resolve escalated legal and compliance matters
- Evaluate borrower rescission requests and advise on required actions and timing
- Advise on post-closing compliance matters, corrective actions, cures, and remediation
- Support power-of-attorney and trust reviews for loan transactions
- Manage and prioritize legal and compliance origination issues
- Translate legal and regulatory requirements into risk-based business guidance
- Convert regulatory requirements into business and system requirements, controls, and processes for Encompass, Mavent, and other platforms
- Supervise, train, and mentor a junior attorney
- Partner with the EVP, Regulatory Counsel on complex regulatory matters and business challenges
- Keep the EVP, Regulatory Counsel informed of significant matters, emerging risks, and priorities
Requirements
What you’ll need- Juris Doctor (J.D.)
- Active bar license in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- 5+ years of legal or regulatory compliance experience in mortgage lending or financial services
- Experience interpreting regulatory changes and advising on their implementation
- Experience supervising or mentoring attorneys or compliance professionals, preferred
- Extensive knowledge of mortgage origination laws and regulations, including TILA/Regulation Z, RESPA/Regulation X, ECOA/Regulation B, HMDA, FCRA, the SAFE Act, UDAAP, and state lending and licensing requirements
- Advanced legal research, analysis, and writing skills
- Skill in converting regulatory requirements into operational and technology requirements
- Excellent communication, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Sound judgment to effectively manage a high volume of matters and competing deadlines
- Excellent collaboration and organizational skills
- Experience with loan origination systems, Encompass preferred
- Experience with compliance technology such as Mavent
