About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide peer support to youth and young adults, typically ages 16–22, using lived experience with mental illness and recovery
  • Guide, coach, and mentor members working toward recovery
  • Assist members in setting and attaining short- and long-term goals
  • Share personal recovery journeys with youth and young adults
  • Help youth identify and build community and natural supports
  • Collect and share youth and young adult community-resource information
  • Collaborate with clinical services using wrap-around methods
  • Help young adults and caregivers understand available services
  • Support members in achieving recovery goals, reinforce care plans, improve access to care, identify healthcare needs, and reduce unnecessary hospitalizations
  • Help young adults develop self-advocacy strategies within Juvenile Justice, schools, and community mental health agencies
  • Participate in weekly supervision/coaching and required data collection
  • Submit accurate time, mileage, expense, reports, and member documentation by required deadlines
  • Conduct at least 50% of activities in community-based settings
  • Present on peer support and its incorporation into managed care services when requested

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must live in Ohio
  • Must be willing to travel up to 50% of the time
  • Must be located in Ohio
  • Ability to travel to multiple office and home locations with a personal vehicle
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver's license and automobile insurance
  • Experience using a computer and strong keyboard navigation skills
  • Experience with MS Office Suite, Word and Excel applications
  • Completion of a Youth and Adult Certified Peer Support Training Program from the state training agency of employment within 90 days from start date
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Direct lived experience of mental health and/or substance use issues
  • High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent experience
  • Preferred: Motivational interviewing experience
  • Preferred: Training in Trauma-Informed Care and Mental Health First Aid
  • Lived experience with a mental health challenge and at least one year in recovery
  • Ability to effectively provide support care to socially and medically complex patients in varied non-traditional settings
  • Exceptional communication, organizational and interpersonal skills, with attention to detail
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team, manage multiple priorities, use effective time management skills, and exercise sound judgment
  • Ability to influence medical care providers to adjust interventions based on members' cultural, ethnic, or religious preferences
