About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead and contribute to a team building systems and AI-enabled platforms for enterprise data processing, storage, and serving
Manage software and data engineers, including employees and contractors
Handle hiring, onboarding, goal setting, performance management, career development, retention, coaching, feedback, and recognition
Mentor engineers, identify skill gaps, and provide training and growth opportunities
Plan team capacity and priorities while balancing delivery commitments, technical debt, and individual growth
Spend approximately 50% of time designing, coding, prototyping, and troubleshooting data pipelines, services, and AI-enabled applications
Author reference implementations, establish engineering patterns, and solve complex technical challenges
Perform code reviews and enforce coding standards
Define full software development lifecycle strategy and data architecture
Develop and execute roadmaps for data-driven and AI-enabled software projects
Evaluate and adopt industry-standard data and advanced analytics capabilities
Identify and mitigate technical risks affecting project success, data quality, or data integrity
Lead design and delivery of AI/ML-enabled data products, including GenAI, RAG, and LLM-based solutions
Build supporting data foundations, MLOps/LLMOps practices, and evaluation frameworks
Build scalable, reliable, and cost-efficient batch and real-time data pipelines and platforms
Partner with product managers and UX/UI designers on requirements, roadmaps, priorities, specifications, and deliverables
Partner with data scientists and analytics teams to productionize models and prototypes
Work with business stakeholders to shape data and AI investments and demonstrate measurable value
Communicate technical and analytical results to technical and non-technical leaders
Generate ideas, run proofs of concept and experiments, and scale successful solutions
Monitor emerging AI and data engineering technologies and provide pragmatic recommendations

Requirements

What you’ll need

8+ years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, or a related field
3+ years of people management experience, including hiring, performance management, and developing engineers
Ability and willingness to commit approximately 50% of time to hands-on design and development
Deep understanding of full stack engineering, software engineering principles, design fundamentals, and first-principles problem solving
Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, plus at least one additional language such as Java, Scala, or JavaScript/TypeScript
Experience designing and building data pipelines, data models, and data platforms on GCP, AWS, or Azure
Hands-on experience applying AI/ML or GenAI in production data environments
Experience working with product, data science, and business teams
Strong knowledge of CI/CD, testing, observability, and DevOps practices
Ability to plan, deliver, and support work
Business intelligence expertise and ability to translate business needs into technical solutions
Collaboration, teamwork, and relationship-building abilities
Problem-solving and decision-making mastery
Growth mindset, agility, and ability to develop yourself and others
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to influence senior stakeholders
Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
Preferred: healthcare data experience, including HIPAA, PHI handling, and healthcare data standards
Preferred: contact center analytics engineering experience
Preferred: LLM application frameworks, vector databases, and managed AI platforms
Preferred: data governance, data quality, lineage, and access control experience
Preferred: experience managing blended teams, including managers or team leads
Preferred: familiarity with DORA frameworks
Preferred: innovation track record from proof of concept through production adoption
