About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design and implement significant API Platform features and services
Contribute to architectural discussions and evaluate short-term versus long-term technical trade-offs
Follow and refine technical standards and best practices
Identify risks, bugs, technical debt, and areas for system improvement
Write high-quality, well-tested, maintainable code
Review code for correctness, performance, and readability
Participate in on-call rotations and debug and resolve production issues
Mentor less experienced engineers through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance
Share knowledge and onboard new engineers
Participate in interviewing and hiring
Partner with engineers across CVS Health to understand needs and integrate with the API Platform
Communicate progress, blockers, and technical decisions
Write and maintain technical documentation
Contribute to technical discussions and team decisions
Stay current with industry trends
Contribute to proofs of concept for new technologies and approaches
Evaluate tools and techniques for practical platform fit

Requirements

What you’ll need

5+ years of experience in web development
Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript
Experience with modern front-end frameworks; React and Next.js preferred
Experience with Java and Spring Boot
Experience owning features or components from design through production
Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to teammates and partners
Experience mentoring or supporting the growth of other engineers
Experience working on production systems with real-world scale and reliability needs
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
High school diploma plus 4 years relevant work experience as an alternative educational path
Preferred: 2+ years of experience in API development
Experience with front-end architecture and design systems
Experience building developer tools, libraries, or platforms
Knowledge of modern web performance optimization techniques
Experience with Node.js and server-side JavaScript
Understanding of API design and GraphQL
Experience with DevOps tools, processes, and culture
Experience contributing to inclusive engineering practices
