About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Teach students effectively in assigned classes
- Maintain office hours for student consultation
- Provide students with a written course syllabus
- Participate in evaluating and improving the instructional process using innovative strategies
- Support discipline development by recommending books and materials, revising curricula, and recommending teaching assignments when appropriate
- Maintain accurate and complete course records
- Perform professional activities and responsibilities agreed upon with the division dean
- Collaborate with colleagues to achieve shared goals and visions
- Incorporate knowledge of diverse communities and learning styles into instruction
- Participate in student advising and registration
- Use technology to facilitate learning, access data, maintain records, generate reports, and communicate
- Meet professional assignments in accordance with the System’s calendar and contractual obligations
- Comply with Dallas College board policies, state and federal policy, and the student code of conduct
- Participate in planning division objectives and budget requests
- Serve on and attend college committees as assigned
- Participate in campus commencement exercises and attend required college meetings and activities
- Participate in performance appraisal
- Work effectively with persons from diverse backgrounds
- May work with student clubs and/or organizations
- Communicate with Dallas College organizations, businesses, community groups, faculty, staff, and students
- Promote the college in the community through marketing activities
- Participate in professional development activities
- Complete required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Master’s degree or higher and at least 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline for credit classes transferable towards a higher degree
- For workforce education degree or certificate courses: combination of academic preparation and work experience, including three (3) years of direct or related work experience other than teaching
- For developmental courses: Bachelor’s degree or higher in the specific teaching discipline and demonstrated competency
- Official transcripts required at time of interview
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully with diverse populations
- Ability to provide quality customer service
- May be required to lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- Subject to a criminal background check; some positions may be subject to a fingerprint check
- Regular and predictable attendance required
