Key responsibilities & impact
  • Teach students in assigned classes according to course descriptions, learning outcomes, syllabi, and institutional policies
  • Provide syllabi with institutional policies, course objectives, materials, and evaluation methods
  • Provide workload schedules showing teaching and office hours
  • Certify attendance and maintain accurate course records
  • Submit final grades by established deadlines
  • Communicate with and provide timely feedback to students
  • Develop course curricula and instructional materials individually or collaboratively
  • Diversify teaching methods and content delivery for diverse communities and skill sets
  • Provide effective instruction and assess student learning regularly
  • Participate in assessment activities at course, department, college, and district levels
  • Use appropriate technologies in classroom and online instruction
  • Evaluate teaching methods and improve instructional strategies using data
  • Support college mission, goals, and Board strategic priorities
  • Serve on departmental, college, and/or district committees
  • Attend discipline, department, division, college, assembly, convocation, and commencement/graduation meetings and ceremonies
  • Participate in curriculum reviews, instructional material selection, program reviews, and accreditation activities
  • Discuss program, career, transfer, and college service options with students
  • Perform other mutually agreed duties in consultation with the supervisor
  • Maintain knowledge and competence in the academic discipline or workforce field

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate degree in the discipline or an associate degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Documented competency in the teaching discipline
  • Acceptable competency documentation includes an earned certificate degree in the discipline from a regionally accredited institution and three years of documented non-teaching work experience in the discipline, or an occupational license in the discipline issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration, the Texas Board of Plumbing Examiners, or a recognized reciprocal entity allowing work in the discipline within Texas
  • ELPT 1X15 may also be taught by individuals with a bachelor's degree or higher in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Business, Physics, Engineering, or a related field
  • ELPT 1x11, 1x21, 1x29, 1x70, and 1x8x may be taught by an individual holding a Journeyman or Master Electrician Occupational License
  • ELPT 1x25, 1x41, 1x45, and 1x91 may also be taught by a Licensed Master Electrician
  • Qualified occupational licenses must be issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration or a reciprocal entity
  • Official transcript required
  • Bilingual or multilingual preferred
  • Subject to a criminal background check; some positions may be subject to a fingerprint check
  • Regular and predictable attendance required
  • Maintain any required professional certification or licensure where appropriate
