About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the Product and Engineering department and act as discipline owner within the Product, Engineering and Design organisation
  • Lead development and continuous improvement of DATA4 design standards across European campuses
  • Define and maintain design principles, technical specifications, standard details and approved data center solutions
  • Provide technical leadership for feasibility studies, due diligence and campus master planning
  • Develop scalable and repeatable data center products across projects and geographies
  • Ensure product designs align with operational, commercial, sustainability and customer requirements
  • Lead technical design development for new campuses, expansions and retrofit projects
  • Review and approve conceptual, schematic, developed and detailed designs from external consultants
  • Evaluate structural systems, building envelopes, site development, road networks, utilities interfaces and underground infrastructure
  • Coordinate architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, controls and commissioning interfaces
  • Establish and manage design governance, technical reviews and design assurance
  • Verify consultant submissions comply with company standards, project requirements and regulations
  • Support risk identification, mitigation and resolution
  • Provide technical support during construction across multiple projects
  • Resolve complex design, site and construction challenges with project teams
  • Review contractor proposals, value engineering initiatives and technical deviations
  • Participate in site inspections, quality audits and progress reviews
  • Collaborate with Development, Construction, Operations, Procurement, Sustainability and Commercial teams
  • Manage external consultants, architects, contractors and specialist suppliers
  • Represent DATA4 in technical meetings, design workshops, regulatory discussions and customer engagements
  • Monitor industry trends, technologies, materials and construction methodologies
  • Lead innovative design approaches and best practices
  • Analyse feedback and lessons learned to improve standards and processes
  • Contribute to sustainability, embodied carbon reduction and circular economy objectives
  • Respect and enforce health and safety, environmental, information security and energy policies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in design and construction of mission-critical facilities, large industrial developments, commercial developments or data centres
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary design teams and managing external consultants
  • Demonstrated experience in design governance and technical assurance
  • Experience supporting projects throughout the full development and construction lifecycle
  • Fluent English
  • Strong experience in whole data centre engineering
  • Knowledge of European building codes, structural standards and construction regulations
  • Experience with multidisciplinary coordination within mission-critical facilities
  • Experience reviewing engineering consultant deliverables and managing design reviews
  • Knowledge of BIM methodologies and digital design coordination processes
  • Understanding of sustainability principles and low-carbon construction strategies
  • Experience supporting construction activities and resolving field engineering issues
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or other Registered professional qualification preferred
  • Experience in hyperscale or colocation data centre developments preferred
  • Experience in design standardisation and product development preferred
  • Experience with BIM, Revit and common design collaboration platforms preferred
  • Strong cross-functional relationship-building skills
