About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Answer phones and professionally greet and receive patients
- Verify patient eligibility in DEERS using two forms of identification
- Verify appointments and enter patient data into CHCS and/or Genesis
- Process appointments, cancellations, follow-ups, end-of-date processing, enrollment verification, and patient-file updates
- Handle insurance, third-party liability, and related documentation
- Book and schedule appointments using medical terminology, clinic procedures, and appointment templates
- Conduct electronic health record end-of-day closure and resolve discrepancies
- Assist patients requesting unscheduled examinations and determine appropriate disposition
- Instruct patients on data intake, registration, and Tri-Care On-Line Secure Messaging
- Prepare and maintain patient records, charts, forms, and documentation in HAIMS and TOLSM
- File examination and test results in patient medical records
- Assemble and mail patient-care notifications
- Compile workload data and support reconciliation
- Assist with performance improvement audits and time analysis
- Establish clinic appointment schedules, create provider templates, and monitor or change appointment categories
- Screen patient records for accuracy and medical readiness status
Requirements
What you’ll need- Certificate; graduate from a medical assistant training program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES, or a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces
- Current certification as a medical assistant by the American Association of Medical Assistants or current registration by the American Medical Technologists
- Basic Life Support certification
- One year of experience as a Medical Assistant after graduation
- Knowledge of medical terminology and clinic standard operating procedures
- Experience with CHCS, AHLTA, Genesis, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook
- Ability to verify patient eligibility in DEERS using two forms of identification
- Ability to work rotating scheduled hours and/or locations as mission requirements dictate
