About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own the functional definition of software scope, translating sold solutions into buildable software
  • Provide collaborative input to the Solutions Software team during presales, proposal generation, Level 1 Software Design Specification, and ROM estimation
  • Develop Level 2 Software Design Specifications for customer proposals
  • Build firm software-scope estimates with committed hours, deliverables, and assumptions
  • Partner through the Level 1 to Level 2 transition to identify scope gaps and risks
  • Support in-person project kick-offs and lead detailed design workshops
  • Conduct onsite discovery at customer facilities to validate operational requirements, material flow, process exceptions, and existing systems
  • Participate in or lead Scrum ceremonies and own and groom the project backlog
  • Maintain and update Software Design Specifications with the Development lead throughout design and development
  • Author third-party integration specifications for warehouse subsystems
  • Author WMS/ERP integration specifications covering messaging, data mapping, transaction flows, and error handling
  • Define IT and network specifications, including servers, virtualization, hardware, networking, security, and infrastructure
  • Define DATUM-to-Controls integration specifications with Controls Engineering
  • Provide project and sales-pipeline inputs to Product and R&D teams to shape the DATUM roadmap
  • Travel to customer sites for discovery, workshops, design reviews, and commissioning support, up to 50%
  • Represent the Software department with high standards of ethics and integrity
  • Evaluate organizational performance data to identify opportunities and adapt

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 8 or more years of experience in software development, systems analysis, solution design, or technical project delivery for WES/WCS, WMS, or other industrial software
  • Technical bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Electrical Engineering; potentially Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, or equivalent experience
  • Experience writing design specifications, functional requirements, or integration documents used by development teams
  • Understanding of material handling automation and the relationship between WES, WMS/ERP, and PLC-level controls
  • Hands-on experience specifying integrations, REST/APIs, messaging, flat file, and EDI
  • Experience estimating software scope and documenting assumptions
  • Experience in an Agile/Scrum environment and backlog management
  • Proficiency with Jira or Azure DevOps
  • Ability to deliver results in fast-paced and high-stress environments
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with clients, management, and multidiscipline teams
  • Ability to execute with minimum supervision and guidance
  • Ability to manage multiple complex tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency in MS Office products and diagramming tools such as Visio, Draw.io, or Lucidchart
  • Familiarity with SQL, log review, and modern software project management suites is a plus
