About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead a team of four developers building internal applications used across the Debenhams Group business
- Provide hands-on technical leadership, set direction, review code, and make architectural decisions
- Coach team members and support their professional growth
- Work with the Software Development Manager to plan sprints and prioritise the backlog
- Manage delivery risk
- Own incident response and root cause analysis for issues within the team’s applications
- Build and maintain applications using React and Node.js
- Deploy applications to AWS using event-driven architecture patterns
- Work with GitHub Actions, Terraform, PostgreSQL, MySQL, DocumentDB, DynamoDB, SNS, SQS, EventBridge, Git, and GitHub Actions
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years’ development experience, including at least 3 years in a management or team-leading capacity
- Experience mentoring and developing other engineers
- Hands-on production experience with React and Node.js
- Solid understanding of AWS services and cloud architecture
- Experience with GitHub Actions for CI/CD and Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools
- Working knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, DocumentDB, or DynamoDB
- Experience designing or working within event-driven architectures using SNS, SQS, EventBridge, or equivalent
- Excellent communication skills
- Comfortable giving feedback and managing people
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum
- Familiarity with microservices or serverless architectures
- Ideally, experience within ecommerce or retail
