About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide operational, technical, and scientific subject matter expertise supporting CDC public health emergency response requirements
  • Support 24/7 Emergency Operations Center staff
  • Serve as communication liaison between the EOC, supported CDC Centers, Institutes and Offices, federal agencies, health officials, and the public
  • Screen and triage response-related calls and transfer them to appropriate subject matter experts
  • Receive, assess, and report response-related information according to SOPs and protocols
  • Use the EOC Database Support System (EDSS) for triage support and response protocol guidance
  • Document response-related calls in CDC systems, including caller, call type, and actions taken
  • Receive and distribute response-related reports to internal and external partners
  • Triage Requests for Information, Assistance, or Resources
  • Follow up on critical actions as action officer for the Duty Officer and/or Senior Operations Officer
  • Track critical actions for monthly reports
  • Coordinate with response task forces and teams to meet support requirements
  • Update triage protocols and procedures with the Duty Officer when required
  • Maintain a Shift Change Log and participate in shift change briefings

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Junior (BA/BS in Public Health, or similar, with 2+ years work experience, or 4+ years work experience in an Emergency Operations Center environment)
  • 0–2 years of Operations Center experience required
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook Mail)
  • Ability to effectively communicate needs at all briefings to assist with operational strategy
  • Ability to follow precise protocols for disseminating information to callers
  • Ability to identify gaps in existing resources
  • Ability to multitask in emergency situations
  • Flexibility with a strong sense of urgency
  • Interpersonal communication, including telephone, email, and business etiquette
  • Strong proofreading skills and attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to follow protocols and procedures set forth by provided instructions
  • Proactive problem-solving and ability to address issues through proper channels and within existing parameters
