About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Complete the comprehensive Duty Officer training program and support the 24/7 Emergency Operations Center staff
- Receive, assess, and report information according to SOPs and protocols
- Receive and distribute response-related reports to internal and external partners
- Triage Requests for Information, Assistance, and Resources
- Coordinate with response task forces and teams to meet support requirements
- Participate in meetings, briefings, and working groups
- Contribute to reports and feedback mechanisms
- Collaborate with operations teams and stakeholders to revise response-related documents and processes
- Maintain shift-change logs and lead combined shift-change briefings
- Support drills, training sessions, exercises, and emergency activations
- Track and log incoming calls, faxes, and emails using established logs and the EOC call log system (ECLA)
- Answer telephone calls within two rings and triage communications from public health communities, the public, CDC staff, and government agencies
- Ensure complete and accurate call entries, including the 5 Ws
- Log follow-up incident and event emails in ECLA
- Document call closeout and final resolution in the call database
- Collect, analyze, and quality-control call data
- Generate daily, monthly, annual, and requested call reports
- Provide weekly summaries of call volume and categories
- Facilitate staff training on call triage procedures
- Support Continuity of Operations Plan activities
- Update emergency notification contact lists and call-triage protocols
- Assist action officers with follow-up on critical EOC actions
- Support Incident Management Structure responses through task tracking, information triage, staff rhythm development, and meeting management
Requirements
What you’ll need- Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance
- BA/BS in Public Health or similar, with 2+ years experience OR equivalent of 5+ years work experience and experience in an Emergency Operations Center environment
- Advanced communication skills, including communication during briefings and via telephone and email
- Business etiquette with internal and external points of contact
- Attention to detail and proofreading skills
- Ability to identify gaps in existing resources
- Ability to multitask in emergency situations
- Ability to adapt and be flexible with a strong sense of urgency
- Strong leadership, coaching and training, problem-solving, customer service, adaptability, teamwork and collaboration, cultural competence, and technical proficiency
- Ability to work extended hours as required during emergency situations
