About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Conduct reviews of Critical/Sentinel Events to determine whether incidents meet critical event, critical incident, risk event, sentinel event, or media event criteria
  • Classify critical events or incidents as sentinel or non-sentinel events
  • Develop and update the MH-WIN Procedural Guidance Manual for reporting critical incidents/events, sentinel events, and deaths
  • Document and report high-profile, media-reported, and urgent incidents meeting critical incident criteria
  • Develop face-to-face Critical/Sentinel Event training for the provider network
  • Report all expected and unexpected deaths to MDHSS within 24 hours of knowledge
  • Process closure of assigned deaths in the MH-WIN Module
  • Provide oversight and management of Performance Improvement Projects
  • Review member records and related information, including IPOS, progress notes, psychiatric evaluations, Behavior Management Plans, dispute resolutions, grievances and appeals, and recipient rights complaints
  • Follow up with providers on root cause analyses, investigations, corrective action plans, and interventions
  • Maintain confidentiality and distribute peer review materials only as necessary
  • Upload Critical/Sentinel Event information into MH-WIN and the All Scanned Documents tab
  • Analyze and report member experience and satisfaction with services
  • Develop performance improvement targets with the QI Administrator and Director
  • Implement systems-improvement changes and measure and evaluate results
  • Collaborate with other DWIHN units to support quality, service, and efficiency improvements
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, the Human Services, the Social Services, or a related field
  • Three (3) years of professional experience in behavioral healthcare
  • At least two (2) years of experience in a community mental health setting
  • Two years of experience in clinical practice
  • Valid State of Michigan clinical licensure: LMSW, LPC, or LLP
  • Must meet credentialing qualification as at least one of: Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP), Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP), or Qualified Children Mental Health Professional (QCMHP)
  • Valid State of Michigan Driver’s License with a safe and acceptable driving record
  • Knowledge of DWIHN policies, procedures, and practices
  • Knowledge of quality improvement, Utilization Management, Critical/Sentinel Event procedures, Quality Assurance, accreditation and certification standards, medical and behavioral health practices, compliance standards, Medicaid screening, and MDHHS policies
  • Computer, time management, organizational, critical thinking, teamwork, conflict resolution, decision-making, project management, assessment, report writing, communication, multitasking, and analytical skills
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing and work effectively with diverse populations
