About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as a strategic legal partner to Real Estate, Store Development, Construction, and Property Management teams
  • Support retail real estate strategy and store portfolio
  • Provide counsel on new store development, lease negotiations and renewals, remodels, relocations, portfolio optimization, and store closures
  • Draft, negotiate, and oversee documentation for retail real estate transactions
  • Monitor compliance with real estate-related contractual obligations and pursue non-compliance
  • Negotiate and draft amendments to resolve contractual issues
  • Provide legal support to Real Estate, Development, Construction, Facilities, and Real Estate Management departments
  • Counsel and advise management on real estate matters
  • Oversee and manage outside counsel preparing and negotiating real estate transaction documentation
  • Review and manage outside counsel fees against predetermined budgets
  • Support and, where necessary, manage real estate-related litigation, including mechanics’ liens and construction cost disputes

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Advanced Degree
  • JD
  • 5-7 years experience
  • 8+ years of experience practicing law, preferably in a law firm, corporate legal department or relevant regulatory agency (e.g., SEC); or a distinguished record of handling complex matters correlating to that level of practice experience
  • Deep experience negotiating sophisticated commercial retail real estate transactions
  • Experience with leases, complex amendments, letters of intent, construction and design agreements, reciprocal easement agreements, purchase and sale agreements, SNDAs, estoppels, and related ancillary documentation
  • Ability to balance legal risk with business objectives in a fast-paced retail environment
  • Candidates must not use AI tools during interviews or assessments
