About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, develop, test, debug, deploy, and maintain production applications and services
Build and enhance modern web applications using JavaScript/TypeScript and related frontend and backend frameworks
Contribute across frontend interfaces, backend services, APIs, databases, and cloud infrastructure
Translate product and scientific requirements into technical designs and working software
Participate in application and system design decisions involving APIs, service boundaries, data flows, integrations, security, reliability, and maintainability
Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code and participate in peer code reviews
Develop and maintain automated testing and CI/CD practices
Deploy and support applications in AWS environments, including monitoring, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and production support
Diagnose complex production issues using logs, metrics, traces, and other observability tools
Participate in root-cause analysis and corrective actions
Collaborate with and mentor other developers through design discussions, code reviews, pair programming, and technical problem-solving
Use AI-assisted engineering tools while independently reviewing and validating generated code, tests, designs, and recommendations
Identify opportunities to improve application quality, engineering productivity, automation, performance, and reliability
Communicate technical decisions, risks, and tradeoffs to technical and nontechnical stakeholders

Requirements

What you’ll need

Typically 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated experience building and supporting production applications
Strong, recent hands-on JavaScript/TypeScript development experience
Ability to independently develop, debug, review, test, and maintain production code
Experience with modern web application development using React, Next.js, Node.js, or comparable JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks
Experience building backend services, APIs, and production applications using Node.js, Python, or comparable modern technologies
Experience taking software from requirements through design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support
Experience designing and integrating REST, GraphQL, event-driven, or similar application interfaces
Hands-on cloud experience, preferably AWS, including deployment, troubleshooting, monitoring, and production operations
Strong experience with software design, automated testing, code review, CI/CD, debugging, observability, and root-cause analysis
Experience with relational or NoSQL databases and application data modeling
Recent experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar tools
Ability to independently evaluate and validate AI-generated work
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to collaborate effectively across technical and nontechnical teams
Preferred: Terraform, CloudFormation, Docker, Kubernetes, modern CI/CD platforms, microservices, event-driven or distributed architectures, data-intensive applications, D3.js or similar visualization libraries, LLMs, RAG, agents, semantic search, AI-enabled systems, healthcare/biomedical/scientific/federal environments, and interest in biomedical research
