About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own preparation of IFRS-compliant statutory financial statements for all Digital Science entities
  • Liaise with external auditors through sign-off
  • Set and maintain group accounting policies aligned with Holtzbrinck group reporting requirements
  • Own legal entity consolidation, including intercompany eliminations, FX translation, and consolidated reporting in NetSuite
  • Own month-end and year-end close calendars across the Accounting, Tax & Corporate Reporting team
  • Review key reconciliations, significant journal entries, and judgemental accounting positions
  • Own tax compliance and transfer pricing with internal accountants and external advisors
  • Act as primary contact with Holtzbrinck group tax
  • Manage external tax advisor and local compliance accountant relationships, including contracts, scope, and fees
  • Oversee IFRS 15 revenue recognition policy and application
  • Make and document decisions on complex technical accounting matters
  • Own the internal control environment and remediate control gaps
  • Lead annual external, internal, and tax authority audits
  • Lead, coach, and develop the Accounting, Tax & Corporate Reporting team
  • Plan team resourcing and workload to meet reporting deadlines
  • Stand in for the CFO on accounting, tax, and audit matters
  • Build commercial, cross-functional, and board-level communication experience toward CFO-level responsibility
  • Deliver accurate and timely statutory statements, clean audit sign-off, controlled closes, compliant tax and transfer pricing, and effective team performance

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Significant post-qualification experience in statutory reporting, tax, and technical accounting
  • Proven experience owning external audit relationships and delivering clean, timely statutory accounts across multiple entities
  • Strong working knowledge of IFRS, including IFRS 15 revenue recognition and consolidation
  • Experience managing tax compliance and transfer pricing in a multi-entity, multi-jurisdiction environment
  • Experience owning and negotiating contracts and commercial terms with external tax advisory and accounting firms, including fee and scope management
  • People leadership experience and a track record of developing accounting teams
  • Experience reporting into a parent group structure (desirable)
  • Experience in SaaS, technology, or subscription-based businesses (desirable)
  • Exposure to board-level or senior stakeholder reporting (desirable)
  • Technically rigorous, with sound judgement on complex accounting and tax positions
  • Able to act as a credible stand-in for the CFO
  • Calm under pressure around audit and reporting deadlines
  • Curious about AI and comfortable experimenting and adapting
  • Must reside in the UK
  • Must be based in or close to London to attend the office around twice a month
