About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Diagnose and repair residential plumbing systems
  • Lead customers to informed and confident buying decisions
  • Assemble pipe sections, tubing, and fittings using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, soldering, brazing, and welding equipment
  • Test pipes and plumbing fixtures with water or air and observe pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks
  • Review building codes and specifications to determine work details and procedures
  • Prepare written work cost estimates and negotiate contracts
  • Study building plans and inspect structures to assess material and equipment needs
  • Establish pipe installation sequences and plan installations around obstructions
  • Keep assignment records and produce detailed work reports
  • Locate and mark pipe installations, connections, passage holes, and fixtures
  • Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe using hand and power tools or pipe-cutting, threading, and bending machines
  • Install pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, appliances, and plumbing fixtures
  • Cut openings in structures for pipes and fittings
  • Hang supports from ceiling joists to hold pipes in place
  • Repair and maintain plumbing, replace defective washers, repair broken pipes, and open clogged drains
  • Use electrical demolition hammers, excavators, and trenching equipment for underground plumbing installation and repair
  • Install underground storm, sanitary, and water piping systems
  • Extend piping to connect fixtures and plumbing to underground systems
  • Clear debris during renovations
  • Collect payment from customers at every job

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 3 years’ experience or education/training in installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting and correcting diverse plumbing issues
  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and manuals
  • Excellent customer service skills with desire to exceed customer expectations
  • Ability to work independently in a timely manner and complete jobs correctly the first time
  • Well groomed, neat appearance
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Must be able to pass drug test and background check
  • Observe all company procedures and safety rules
  • Ability to work as part of a team to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Ability to lift, lower, push, and pull objects of up to 50 lbs. unassisted
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk on uneven surfaces or unstable ground, climb, bend, stoop, reach, balance, talk, hear, taste, smell, and crouch for extended periods
  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel
  • Availability generally Monday through Friday, 7AM to 5PM, with periodic nights, weekends, and on-call work potentially required
