About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Diagnose and repair residential plumbing systems
- Lead customers to informed and confident buying decisions
- Assemble pipe sections, tubing, and fittings using appropriate tools and joining methods
- Test pipes and plumbing fixtures with water or air and inspect pressure gauges for leaks
- Review building codes and specifications to determine work procedures
- Prepare written work cost estimates and negotiate contracts
- Study building plans and inspect structures to assess materials and equipment needs
- Plan pipe installations around obstructions such as electrical wiring
- Maintain assignment records and produce detailed work reports
- Learn complex calculations and planning for special or very large jobs
- Locate and mark pipe installations, connections, passage holes, and fixtures
- Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe using hand and power tools or pipe machines
- Install pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, dishwashers, water heaters, sinks, and toilets
- Cut structural openings for pipes and fittings
- Hang ceiling-joist supports to hold pipes in place
- Repair and maintain plumbing, including replacing washers, repairing pipes, and clearing clogged drains
- Use demolition hammers, excavators, and trenching equipment for underground plumbing work
- Install underground storm, sanitary, and water piping systems
- Extend piping to connect fixtures and plumbing systems
- Clear debris during renovations
- Collect customer payment at every job
- Perform other assigned duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- 3 years’ experience or education/training in installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting and correcting diverse plumbing issues
- Good analytical skills and attention to detail
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and manuals
- Excellent customer service skills with desire to exceed customer expectations
- Ability to work independently in a timely manner and complete jobs correctly the first time
- Well groomed, neat appearance
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Must be able to pass drug test and background check
- Must observe all company procedures and safety rules
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to lift, lower, push, and pull objects of up to 50 lbs. unassisted
- Ability to stand, sit, walk on uneven surfaces or unstable ground, climb, bend, stoop, reach, balance, talk, hear, taste, smell, and crouch for extended periods
- Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel
- Availability generally Monday through Friday, 7AM to 5PM, with periodic nights, weekends, and on-call work
- Ability to work in interior and exterior residential environments with possible exposure to weather, dust, mists, chemicals, and required personal protective equipment
