About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Advise on (re)insurance coverage and disputes
  • Advise on complex international coverage issues, including Warranty & Indemnity claims, Transactional Liability risks, Financial Lines claims, Directors & Officers, Financial Institutions Professional Indemnity/Civil Liability and Crime
  • Represent insurers and reinsurers in litigation, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution
  • Lead the instruction of financial and forensic experts on accounting, loss and valuation issues in complex coverage claims
  • Manage multi-jurisdictional mandates and coordinate with international legal teams
  • Deliver high-quality legal services and written work products, including reports, client memos, PowerPoint presentations and focused email content
  • Communicate effectively and build relationships with clients, colleagues and stakeholders
  • Collaborate within a high-performing team, share knowledge and contribute to collective success
  • Identify and pursue repeat-business and client-growth opportunities
  • Support and lead business-development initiatives within the insurance sector
  • Develop technical, commercial and sector knowledge of global re/insurance markets and emerging trends
  • Work on cross-border mandates and collaborate with DLA colleagues worldwide across the US, Europe and APAC

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Qualified Solicitor in England and Wales
  • Indicative experience level of 5–8 years' PQE; no upper or lower PQE limits are set
  • Strong insurance/reinsurance coverage and disputes experience gained in a leading regional or City firm and/or strong wider M&A/SPA disputes experience
  • Detailed knowledge of and depth of experience advising and representing insurer clients on Warranty & Indemnity and/or wider Transactional Liability coverage issues
  • Experience of wider lines of business, particularly Financial Lines and Directors & Officers, and/or drafting policy wordings and endorsements would be beneficial
  • High level of technical, commercial and sector expertise
  • Strong understanding of global re/insurance market dynamics and emerging issues
  • Evidence of client development activities and efforts that increased client engagement, new relationships or new work
  • Strong communication skills and experience providing solution-focused, commercial, clear and succinct client advice
  • Experience regularly leading case strategy development and drafting complex documents with minimal supervision to a high standard
  • Experience delegating and supporting others' professional development
  • Deep understanding of technical issues key to clients
  • Commercial astuteness and awareness of key legal and business news
  • Excellent communication, client relations and team-working skills
  • Ability to provide timely, professional, high-quality service and comply with professional standards and regulatory obligations
  • Ability to deliver proactive client support and a positive, professional client experience
  • Ability to work cooperatively, share information and knowledge, and identify business-development opportunities
