About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Respond to donor referrals and provide onsite consultation to referring hospitals
- Conduct chart reviews and determine medical suitability with clinical personnel
- Document donor information in DNWest electronic records
- Assess hemodynamic stability and develop strategies to maintain organ function
- Collaborate with physicians and hospital staff from referral through death/DCD evaluation
- Obtain, label, and package specimens for testing
- Perform donor physical assessments
- Manage donors using critical-care knowledge, critical thinking, approved protocols, and action plans
- Review donor cases with the Clinical Operations Manager regarding management goals, clinical strategies, and allocation needs
- Coordinate organ recovery with operating-room staff and recovery services
- Maintain organ-packaging proficiency according to UNOS standards
- Communicate with coroners/medical examiners and coordinate plans for donation release and post-recovery remains
- Maintain hospital leadership, physician, nursing, and ancillary-care relationships
- Provide onsite support, conflict resolution, education, and service recovery
- Conduct donation discussions with grieving families and provide bedside support
- Complete authorization forms, donor risk assessment interviews, and donation-process calls
- Coordinate organ allocation and recovery according to organizational and UNOS policies
- Maintain donor records, supplies, equipment, timecards, expenses, transportation documentation, chart corrections, and activity logs
- Attend meetings and trainings, complete assigned competencies, and participate in chart, case, and after-action reviews
- Travel to all areas of DNWest’s service area
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree required in Nursing or biological sciences, or an equivalent degree/diploma/certificate in an allied health field or OPO experience
- 2 years’ experience in a critical care setting or at least 1 year of experience in another OPO clinical role
- Obtain Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC) Certification within 2 years of completing successful orientation and maintain certification
- Obtain and maintain Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification
- Obtain/maintain other professional certification, such as RN, EMT-P, or RRT
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to manage highly stressful situations calmly and professionally, using judgment and discretion
- Qualified to perform donor evaluations and donor management
- Ability to travel throughout DNWest’s service area by car
- Valid driver’s license and current vehicle insurance meeting applicable state minimum standards
- Basic knowledge from prior classroom and/or on-the-job training
