About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Work closely with engineering mentors on high-level projects
- Drive product development and improvement
- Generate and modify parts and drawings in Creo
- Manipulate bills of materials and prepare engineering change notices
- Build prototypes using Bobcat facilities
- Participate in design reviews and complete engineering calculations
- Conduct finite element analysis studies in Ansys and document simulation results
- Identify high-stress areas, develop load cases, and validate simulations against real-world test data
- Develop manufacturing process layouts in AutoCAD
- Create standard work instructions and assist with automation technologies
- Create machines, tooling, jigs, and fixtures for manufacturing
- Optimize production work content and headcount
- Instrument sensors, operate testing equipment, analyze test data, and create test reports
- Benchmark Bobcat products and present test findings
- Analyze warranty trends, investigate product issues, and identify failure modes and root causes
- Ensure supplier components meet engineering specifications and measure parts for compliance
- Develop electrical harnesses, schematics, and component layouts
- Troubleshoot and debug electrical systems
- Write, test, and debug code for Bobcat products
- Create coding tools, participate in code reviews, and specify embedded hardware requirements
- Test embedded systems for proper function and machine integration
Requirements
What you’ll need- Pursuing a Bachelor's degree; sophomore, junior, or senior standing
- Engineering major: Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Agricultural Manufacturing, or other Engineering/Industrial Technologies
- Previous co-op/intern experience with Bobcat is required
- Must be currently enrolled at North Dakota State University, University of Mary, or University of North Carolina Charlotte
- Knowledge of CAD software preferred; Creo preferred or SolidWorks
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Hands-on experience is a plus (farm, mechanic, hobby carpentry, etc.)
- Project management skills are a plus
- Ability to commit to Bobcat for the entire 3–4 month internship term
- Ability to work 12–20 hours per week or 40 hours during the summer term
- Time management skills and ability to work independently
- Problem-solving skills
- Proficient organization and communication skills
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to follow written instructions
