Key responsibilities & impact
  • Drive News Corp Australia’s editorial R&D agenda
  • Lead discovery, rapid prototyping, and de-risking of AI solutions
  • Set standards for ethical, scalable, and value-accretive AI tooling across national newsrooms
  • Guide ideas from exploratory R&D to validated proof-of-concepts for live newsroom adoption
  • Lead the Innovation squad, including AI Product Manager, Data Scientist, AI/Python Developer, and Editorial specialists
  • Partner with editorial leadership, engineering, and prompt design to create prioritised R&D product roadmaps
  • Lead the end-to-end innovation lifecycle for AI capabilities, LLMs, and emerging technologies
  • Define business cases and validate prototypes through agile methods
  • Oversee model accuracy, hallucination management, and output validation
  • Manage handovers of production-ready prototypes into BAU maintenance and scaling
  • Produce technical charters, evaluation frameworks, and product briefs
  • Remove technical and operational blockers across teams
  • Establish R&D metrics and lead-indicator KPIs for prototype velocity, editorial feasibility, and projected business value
  • Guide and develop product professionals

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Proven track record in product management leading 0-to-1 innovation, rapid prototyping, or R&D initiatives within media, digital publishing, or high-pace tech environments
  • Strong practical understanding of generative AI, LLM architectures, fine-tuning, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), agentic systems, and prompt evaluation
  • Ability to thrive in a high-velocity, real-time news ecosystem
  • Experience building systematic validation frameworks to test model performance, bias, and output safety
  • Ability to bridge conversations between data scientists, prompt engineers, and newsroom executives
  • Demonstrated capability in guiding and developing other product professionals
  • Experience setting high standards for documentation and product craft
