About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the identification, assessment, and communication of complex legal risks
- Advise leadership and cross-functional teams on legal, contractual, and risk mitigation matters
- Oversee resolution of risk-related matters in alignment with risk tolerance and professional standards
- Anticipate emerging risks and implement proactive measures to reduce legal exposure
- Monitor evaluation and management of significant risks
- Recommend actionable risk mitigation plans
- Lead identification and resolution of standard and complex risk issues
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and escalate key issues
- Implement risk management policies, guidance, procedures, and training programs
- Manage and develop other Risk Counsel and/or Subcontract Managers
- Embed risk management practices into business processes
- Review contracts and advise on contractual rights, obligations, and potential risks
- Support DPR and related entities on risk management, corporate insurance and surety programs, contractual risk transfer, and construction contracting
- Provide legal support on insurance, surety, and risk allocation issues
- Serve as backup resource to the contracting counsel team on contract review and negotiation across construction agreements
Requirements
What you’ll need- Juris Doctor (JD) degree required
- State Bar License required
- 8-10 years of experience in risk management, legal counsel, or a related field required
- Experience in a combination of law firm and in-house counsel preferred
- Ability to advise leadership and cross-functional teams on legal, contractual, and risk matters
- Experience with risk management policies, guidance, procedures, and training programs
- Experience reviewing contracts and advising on contractual rights, obligations, and risks
- Knowledge of insurance, surety, contractual risk transfer, and construction contracting
- Experience with construction agreements, including Owner contracts, subcontracts, supply agreements, and professional services contracts
