About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Define and evolve architectural solutions improving performance, scalability, reliability, and operations
Own the exchange technical roadmap and architecture for major domain initiatives
Maintain shared foundations, system boundaries, core patterns, and data contracts
Drive consistency in technologies and patterns across exchange services
Partner with Product, Infrastructure, Platform, partner engineering teams, brokers, market makers, and clearing partners
Contribute hands-on to prototypes, proofs of concept, and production systems
Set performance and reliability targets and lead load and resilience testing before peak events
Guide teams on distributed-system patterns, fault tolerance, observability, and operational readiness
Own operational health using automation and AI tooling to detect and prevent problems
Support incident resolution and turn lessons into recurring-failure fixes
Identify and pursue platform cost-efficiency opportunities
Conduct design reviews and provide technical guidance
Mentor engineers on architecture and effective AI-tool usage
Identify, measure, and scale valuable AI applications in the domain
Set guardrails for AI-assisted work
Align architectural decisions with business priorities and long-term platform strategy

Requirements

What you’ll need

Professional software engineering experience
Significant experience designing and evolving large-scale distributed systems in production
Experience with fast, high-volume transactional or event-driven systems where accuracy matters as much as speed
Background in exchanges, trading, payments, or other financial systems is a strong advantage
Extensive knowledge of messaging and streaming systems
Hands-on Kafka expertise is a strong advantage
Understanding of distributed state management, data splitting and sharding, in-memory versus durable storage, and consistency trade-offs
Understanding of microservices architecture, containerization, and orchestration
Comfort working across Go and .NET/C# stacks
Familiarity with FIX, gRPC, and Protobuf
Experience integrating with third-party systems
Working knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases
Proficiency with continuous integration and delivery, infrastructure as code, observability tooling, load testing, and capacity projections
Practical experience using AI tools in production, including coding assistants, agents, automated review, and analysis
Ability to evaluate the economics of AI-based approaches versus building or buying
Exposure to regulated software environments, including auditability, data sensitivity, and compliance
Clear, structured communication and ability to document decisions and influence technical and non-technical audiences
Interest in mentoring engineers and raising engineering standards
