About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Respond to patient inquiries about account balances, statements, and charges by phone, email, and secure messaging
Explain insurance coverage and benefits, including deductibles, copays, coinsurance, explanations of benefits, and patient responsibility
Collect patient payments and follow up on outstanding patient accounts
Set up, document, and monitor payment plans; follow up on missed or late payments
Process medical records requests, verifying authorization and following HIPAA requirements
Collaborate with billing, accounts receivable, and other revenue cycle teams to resolve account issues and escalate complex cases
Document every patient interaction in the billing system
Identify recurring inquiry trends and help improve statements, communications, and processes
Protect patient privacy and follow HIPAA and company compliance standards

Requirements

What you’ll need

5+ years of experience in medical billing and coding within a healthcare setting
Experience in Sleep Medicine and/or DME billing strongly preferred
Experience in collections, including patient balance collections
Experience in a customer service role, including handling sensitive or frustrated callers with patience and professionalism
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to research and resolve account issues independently
Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple accounts, deadlines, and follow-ups
Comfort with technology, including billing and practice management systems, email, and spreadsheets, and the ability to learn new tools quickly
Good people skills: empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to help patients
Working knowledge of HIPAA and patient privacy requirements
Genuine interest in sleep, health, and helping people better understand and improve their well-being
Spanish-speaking (bilingual English/Spanish) is a plus
