About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own end-to-end system architecture across routing, switching, timing, and synchronization platforms
  • Define and maintain system-level functional specifications and engineering requirements documents covering hardware-software interfaces, thermal, mechanical, power, and performance constraints
  • Evaluate and drive platform-level trade-offs such as performance versus power and scalability versus complexity
  • Collaborate with hardware design, software architecture, thermal, and mechanical teams on system integration
  • Define CPU selection, boot methodologies, firmware upgrades, and IC programming
  • Act as technical authority on system behavior, network feature interaction, and platform compatibility across ASIC vendors
  • Drive design reviews and provide input on system-level implications and interactions
  • Develop platform requirement specifications, interface control documents, test coverage matrices, thermal analysis reports, power budgets, and system bring-up guides
  • Create and maintain implementation-ready specifications for hardware, software, validation, and operations teams
  • Analyze and approve cooling methods and thermal design requirements
  • Analyze power distribution planning and integration with PSU and voltage regulator designs
  • Work closely with mechanical engineering
  • Define system-level test plans, platform qualification strategies, and test automation coverage
  • Review and approve test, debug, and validation reports
  • Participate in platform bring-up and hardware/software root cause analysis

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 15+ years of experience in the networking/telecommunications industry
  • Experience spanning system engineering, hardware-software co-design, platform architecture, and test strategy
  • Proven track record delivering carrier-grade networking systems or data center-scale platforms
  • Deep technical expertise in Ethernet switching, IP routing, timing/synchronization, high-speed interconnects, and network processor architectures
  • Strong background in thermal, power, EMI, ESD, and EMC requirements for telecom hardware
  • Ability to write clear, structured, and highly detailed technical documents, including platform specifications, RFPs, ICDs, and user guides
  • Familiarity with compliance standards and regulatory certifications including NEBS, RoHS, and CE
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and influence across teams and disciplines
  • SI/PI, HSIO, and LSIO expertise
  • Experience reviewing pre-layout and post-layout simulations using SI/PI tools
  • Technical knowledge of HSIO interfaces including SerDes, PCIe, and 1G/10G/25G/40G/100G/400G/800G/1600G Ethernet
  • Ability to specify LSIO interfaces including I2C, SPI, UART, and GPIO
  • Nice to have: experience defining system-level test plans, platform qualification strategies, and test automation coverage
  • Nice to have: experience reviewing test reports, debug logs, and validation reports
  • Nice to have: participation in platform bring-up and hardware/software root cause analysis
