About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Analyze project maps, plans, and data sets and summarize wildfire conditions for reports and management plans
- Conduct field assessments to evaluate wildfire hazard conditions
- Analyze field data and GIS data and conduct project-related research
- Prepare or support preparation of fire protection plans, technical reports, and fire hazard reduction recommendations
- Attend meetings to discuss project-related assessment and analysis results
- Represent clients and Dudek to local agencies
- Partner with landowners and land management agencies to evaluate wildfire hazards and develop plans that reduce wildfire risk
- Travel to project sites and client or fire agency offices throughout California as necessary
- Attend in-person and virtual meetings and communicate with government agency representatives, members of the public, and others
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in fire science, fire administration, forestry, natural resources, fire ecology, environmental science, or another related field
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in wildfire suppression or prevention, fire service, environmental planning, consulting, land management, development review, or project management
- Demonstrated environmental planning experience, including preparation or review of planning documents, environmental technical studies, CEQA or NEPA documents, development applications, or related regulatory analyses
- Ability to integrate fire agency operational requirements, wildfire risk considerations, and environmental planning requirements into clear, defensible technical analyses and recommendations
- Ability to conduct research and evaluate data sets and planning documents and summarize pertinent information into reports
- Ability to understand and interpret site development plan drawings
- Ability to work independently
- Familiarity with state and local building, development, and defensible space codes and standards
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test and background check
- U.S. work authorization required
- Proficiency with fire behavior and wildfire hazard mapping and analysis software packages such as BehavePlus, FlamMap, or IFTDSS is highly desirable
- Excellent writing skills and GIS/CAD mapping skills are desired
- Direct experience with a public firefighting or land management agency is desired
- ICC or CASFM Fire Inspector, Plans Examiner, Fire Investigator, or Fire Marshal Certification is desired
- NFPA Certified Wildfire Mitigation Specialist (CWMS) certification is desired
