About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support, maintain, and develop tools used to generate cybersecurity events and incidents across the Duke Energy environment
  • Work with peers, internal and external teams, and management in a 24x7 Cybersecurity Operations Center environment
  • Follow processes and procedures defined by Cybersecurity leadership and the Computer Incident Response Team
  • Generate content for a Global Security Information and Event Management system, including ESM, Oracle, Connector appliances, SmartConnectors, Logger appliances, Windows and Linux servers, and network and security devices
  • Conduct functional testing of the cybersecurity tool suite and coordinate updates to rules and signatures for cyber defense applications
  • Identify, develop, and deploy SIEM content and events, including dashboards, active channels, reports, rules, filters, trends, metrics, and active lists
  • Apply knowledge of cyberthreats and network and endpoint vulnerabilities to establish event and alert generation and correlation criteria
  • Track cyber threat actors and campaigns through technical analysis and open-source/third-party intelligence
  • Research and track new exploits and cyber threats
  • Maintain and improve correlation rules, alerts, searches, reports, and responses for cybersecurity tool suites
  • Assist with patching, upgrades, configuration, and operation of endpoint/antivirus, SIEM loggers and connectors, and network analysis and defense products
  • Tune product events and cyber event correlation rules to reduce false positives and deploy supported products across the threat surface
  • Provide 24x7 systems engineering escalation support on a rotating shift basis

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School/GED
  • Minimum 2 years related work experience
  • Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
  • Knowledge and ability to apply cybersecurity and privacy principles to organizational requirements, including confidentiality, integrity, availability, authentication, and non-repudiation
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Effective problem solving and analytical skills
  • Direct background or exposure to cybersecurity
  • General networking understanding and/or experience
  • Windows and UNIX/Linux command line scripting experience and programming experience
  • Understanding of the cybersecurity threat lifecycle and tools used to mitigate risk
  • Experience with malware analysis content logging/alerting concepts and methods
  • Knowledge of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework
  • Knowledge of data privacy regulations and frameworks such as GDPR and CCPA
  • Commitment to training, self-study, and maintaining technical cybersecurity data protection proficiency
