About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support modification, expansion, and development of new Duke Energy electric substations in Florida
- Perform complex civil/structural engineering designs
- Mentor junior engineers and review consultant engineering firm designs
- Improve internal Civil/Structural engineering procedures and job aids
- Provide engineering and technical expertise for identifying, analyzing, and resolving complex problems
- Plan, organize, estimate, schedule, and monitor work activities
- Prepare technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches
- Conduct engineering studies and coordinate complex projects
- Apply technical expertise to manage projects and disseminate knowledge
- Analyze business processes and recommend enhancements and standards
- Maintain accurate records and files
- Coordinate work activities with teams, stakeholders, contractors, and regulatory agencies
- Coach and mentor engineering and non-degreed engineering professionals
- Represent the company positively and professionally
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program, or PE for the Senior Engineer level
- A Master's degree in Engineering may be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree
- Minimum of four (4) years of related engineering experience for Engineer III
- Minimum of six (6) years of related engineering experience for Senior Engineer
- Specific requirements state 4–6 years of engineering experience, or 5 years with state registration as a Professional Engineer for Senior
- Preferred licensure as a Professional Engineer
- Civil/Structural Engineering experience with emphasis on high-voltage substations and utility infrastructure
- Knowledge of grading, drainage, erosion and sediment control, foundations, oil containment systems, fire walls, and retaining structures
- Strong understanding of geotechnical principles, soil reports, and foundation selection for substation applications
- Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, NESC, ACI, ASCE, and local/state permitting requirements
- Experience with structural/foundation analysis tools such as LPILE, RISA, and Mathcad or equivalent
- Ability to work on multidisciplinary teams and interact with stakeholders, contractors, and regulatory agencies
- Project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
- Ability to lead and mentor junior engineers and designers, including technical oversight and QA/QC review
- Must be able to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
- Must live within a reasonable commute of the designated Duke Energy facility, not greater than 50 miles one way
