About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Gain hands-on experience securing critical operational technology environments supporting the electric grid
  • Support substation cybersecurity, cyber asset management, vulnerability management, patching, compliance, risk management, incident response, and cybersecurity program governance
  • Work alongside cybersecurity analysts, engineers, and operations personnel
  • Support asset inventory reconciliation, cybersecurity assessments, technology deployments, process improvement, and data analysis
  • Develop technical and professional skills
  • Gain insight into Duke Energy's cybersecurity program, electric utility operations, regulatory requirements, and cybersecurity's role in power-grid reliability and resilience
  • Work from remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period
  • Complete a 16-week co-op session
  • Work 5–15% travel as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Currently enrolled and pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in an IT or Engineering related major, such as Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Software Information Systems, Information Technology, Information Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
  • Must not graduate prior to August 2027
  • Must possess all basic/required qualifications to be considered
  • Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
  • Reliable, consistent transportation required for timely arrival at the applicable facility
  • Desired: Previous internship experience
  • Desired: GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • Desired: Knowledge of programming languages, operating systems, and computer networks
  • Desired: Familiarity with Angular or another JavaScript-based framework, Java, Python, and private and/or public cloud environments including Pivotal Cloud Foundry, Azure, and AWS
  • Desired: Knowledge of cybersecurity and privacy principles
  • Desired: Familiarity with Linux, Windows, Active Directory, Infrastructure as Code, Networking, Data Center Infrastructure, relational databases, SQL, and Agile Methodology
  • Desired: Willingness to learn and growth mindset
