About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide engineering and technical expertise and guidance for identifying, analyzing, and resolving routine problems
  • Support business goals through planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring work activities
  • Prepare technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches
  • Conduct basic engineering studies
  • Develop positive working relationships and coordinate work activities
  • Maintain accurate records and files
  • Maintain the distribution system model in Cyme
  • Perform multi-year distribution system studies to identify future capacity needs
  • Initiate and sponsor distribution and transmission capital projects
  • Prepare annual summary reports documenting winter and summer peak load conditions
  • Provide technical support to internal organizations
  • Evaluate the impact of significant load additions on the system
  • Recommend and scope distribution reliability and grid improvement programs
  • Support company goals and represent Duke Energy positively and professionally

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • Master's degree in Engineering accepted in lieu of the bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience for Engineer II
  • Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering preferred
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred
  • 2-4 years of utility experience preferred
  • Experience working in power distribution preferred
  • Ability to work effectively in challenging situations and under time pressure
  • Ability to understand and resolve complex technical issues
  • Experience in power system engineering applications, including power system load flows
  • Educational emphasis on Electric Energy Systems principles or equivalent experience in Power System Operations/Planning/Protection
  • Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles
  • Understanding of engineering research and design practices, evaluating alternatives, making recommendations, and presenting recommendations
  • Understanding of basic project management principles
  • Experience in the utility industry preferred
  • Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam preferred
  • Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
  • Must live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility
  • Must possess all basic/required qualifications
