About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Monitor the practices of Dan River Combined Cycle and Rockingham Combustion Turbine for compliance with company and regulatory policies and requirements
- Serve as single point of contact and/or coordinator for environmental activities requiring broad knowledge and experience
- Support work activities required to comply with environmental regulations and corporate requirements
- Develop, implement, and maintain programs, systems, procedures, and compliance solutions
- Monitor and prevent EHS incidents and hazards; investigate incidents and complaints
- Provide regulatory interpretation and technical advice
- Participate in and support EHS compliance and management system audits
- Research, develop, and evaluate programs, policies, and activities of varying complexity
- Interact with subject matter experts and customers to implement environmental programs, policies, and procedures
- Advise management and assigned customers on environmental programs and policies
- Conduct administrative and development functions, special projects, employee training, emergency preparedness, and quality assurance programs
- Provide regulatory-required and internal environmental reports
- Support environmental and safety goals, strategies, programs, and processes
- Develop and maintain procedures and programs supporting facility compliance with environmental laws and regulations
- Assist with regulatory change, legislative activity, and industry standards tracking
- Assist with federal, state, and local regulatory authorities on interpreting regulations and laws
- Support internal and external industry committees and teams
- Analyze organizational, procedural, customer, and business information to make recommendations to management
- Develop positive working relationships with peers, customers, employees, and management
Requirements
What you’ll need- EHS Consultant: Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety, Engineering, Science, or another related degree
- EHS Consultant: In lieu of a bachelor's degree, High School/GED and 7+ years of related work experience
- Senior EHS Consultant: Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety, Engineering, Science, or another related degree and 6 years minimum related work experience
- Senior EHS Consultant: In lieu of a bachelor's degree, High School/GED and 10+ years of related work experience
- Knowledge of environmental and/or health & safety regulatory compliance requirements, scientific practices, quality assurance principles, and auditing principles
- Demonstrated technical skills in multimedia environmental (air, waste, water) and/or health & safety areas
- Effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-oriented focus
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with management
- Ability, with guidance, to develop and implement systems and processes complying with environmental, health and/or safety laws, regulations, corporate policies and goals
- Experience interfacing with state and/or federal regulators
- Experience supporting EHS compliance at multiple facilities/regions within multiple regulatory jurisdictions
- Senior EHS Consultant preferred professional certifications: North Carolina Physical/Chemical I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator; DOT Shipper Trained
- Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
- Field, work site, and facility visitation required
- Vehicle travel to field locations
- Ability to work occasional overtime, weekends, outages, and callouts
- 5–15% travel
