About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop scope, technical basis, installation, and testing requirements for engineering design changes involving AC/DC power systems, large AC motors, transformers, switchgear, motor control centers, protective relaying, voltage regulators, breakers, and related systems
- Research engineering and design issues, evaluate alternatives, and present recommendations
- Support assigned engineering design changes through work order reviews, corrective action program assignments, and field installation support
- Develop or revise design specifications and technical requirements documents
- Develop or revise complex engineering calculations
- Revise site design basis documents, design drawings, and regulatory documents
- Serve within Duke Energy Nuclear Fleet Corporate Design Engineering, the Design Authority for six nuclear sites
- Support the Oconee Nuclear Station capital engineering change portfolio in Seneca, South Carolina
Requirements
What you’ll need- Basic/required ANSI qualifications under Nuclear Operating Fleet Administrative Procedure AD-LS-ALL-0011 and Regulatory Guide 1.8 Personnel Qualifications
- Electrical Design Engineer I: Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
- Electrical Design Engineer I: A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
- Electrical Design Engineer II: Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
- Electrical Design Engineer II: A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering
- Electrical Design Engineer II: Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience
- Electrical Design Engineer II: Minimum of 1 year of nuclear experience
- Able to achieve nuclear site Unescorted Access/Security clearance
- Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
- May be required to have Emergency Response Organization responsibilities, including callouts, defined site response times, and on-call duty rotation requiring Fit for Duty
- Required to wear personal protective equipment as needed
- Additional hours expected during scheduled refueling outages
- Occasional overnight travel
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
- Preferred: Passing grade on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam
- Preferred: Interest in continued professional development and obtaining Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
- Preferred: Utility industry, specifically nuclear industry, experience
- Preferred: Experience with nuclear industry standard design process
- Preferred: Working level knowledge of ETAP software program
