About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide technical and regulatory support to electric-generating facilities in the Carolinas service area
- Support environmental regulatory compliance, focusing on compliance CEMS and process CEMS at Carolinas generating stations
- Provide technical expertise on USEPA Emission Test Methods, Acid Rain and New Source Performance Standard CEMS, MCEMS, sorbent traps, and PMCEMS
- Provide day-to-day CEMS compliance support and oversight
- Ensure reliable signal transfer to and from the Data Acquisition and Handling System and regulatory-compliant DAHS programming
- Collaborate with facility operations and project management on preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and improvements
- Coordinate stack tests, protect facility equipment, ensure contractor safety, and verify compliant procedures
- Quality-assure emissions data, prepare regulatory reports, and verify report content and calculations before submission
- Serve as subject matter expert for technical programs and environmental compliance issues
- Develop and maintain procedures and programs supporting compliance with environmental laws and regulations
- Track regulatory, legislative, and industry-standard changes and identify needed compliance-program updates
- Work with federal, state, and local authorities to interpret regulations and laws
- Represent Duke Energy on internal and external industry committees and teams
- Prepare environmental reports and develop environmental training programs
- Participate in facility permit preparation and negotiation and support permit implementation
- Update facility regulatory plans and documents while minimizing operational impacts
- Prepare technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches
- Conduct engineering and related studies
- Plan, organize, estimate, schedule, and monitor environmental work activities
- Develop positive working relationships, maintain accurate records, and support company goals
Requirements
What you’ll need- Engineering Technologist III: Associate degree in Engineering Technology and 5 years related work experience
- Engineering Technologist III alternative: High School/GED and 9 years related work experience in lieu of an Associate degree and 8 years related work experience
- Senior Engineering Technologist: Associate degree in Engineering Technology and 8 years related work experience
- Senior Engineering Technologist alternative: High School/GED and 12 years related work experience in lieu of an Associate degree and 8 years related work experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology is desired
- Experience installing, operating, and maintaining CEMS equipment, including PLCs, data loggers, and DAHS software such as CEMLink and Stackvision
- Familiarity with environmental air-emissions regulations, EPA Test Methods, and monitoring performance specifications for the electric-generation industry
- Experience with emissions database quality assurance and regulatory reporting
- Familiarity with computer networks and MODBUS TCPIP
- Experience in instrument integration and maintenance
- Knowledge of power-generation processes
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and complete work within specified timeframes
- Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-oriented focus
- Ability to work with individuals from varied socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds
- Ability to work rotating on-call after-hours and weekends
- Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future
- Ability to work in office and power plant environments, including exposure to machinery, heat, cold, noise, dust, humidity, elevated locations, restricted spaces, and varying weather conditions
- Ability to perform occasional mildly strenuous activity, including lifting under 40 pounds, extensive walking on uneven surfaces, and climbing stairs/ladders
- Travel requirement of 25–50%
